1 lb. butter, soft 2 tbsp. Crisco 2 squeezed oranges (about 1/2 c.) 1 glass milk (wine glass) about 2/3 cup 12 eggs 2 tsp. baking soda 12 tsp. baking powder 4 tsp. vanilla 2 boxes powdered sugar About 5 lbs. flour Beat with electric beater: butter, Crisco, orange juice, milk, soda, baking powder, vanilla, and eggs. Beat well then add powdered sugar and beat well. Add flour a little at a time and beat by hand until dough is stiff enough to work on the board. Put a lot of flour on table and pour mixture from bowl onto flour and work with hands until dough feels stiff enough (not sticky). Put dough in bowl and put in refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Cut a little dough and work into designs. Braid, twist, etc. Brush top after cookies are rolled and before they go into the oven with egg and sprinkle sesame seed on top or confetti candies. Baked on greased cookie sheets at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. |
