WALNUT DRESSING | |
1 lg. pkg. basic cornbread 1 loaf bread, stale 2 lbs. ground sausage, your choice (try andouille or Italian) 1 lg. yellow onion 1 bunch celery 10 eggs 2 tbsp. rubbed sage 2 pinches baking powder 1 container mushrooms 6 oz. walnuts Salt and pepper to taste Cook cornbread and cool. Put stale bread into large bowl of water and soak 1-2 minutes. Drain water and squeeze excess water out of bread. Crumble cornbread into same bowl. In skillet brown sausage, chopped onions, and chopped celery. Saute. Add to bread mixture. Mix. Add eggs, sage, baking powder, and mix well. Chop mushrooms and walnuts. Stir into mixture. Add salt and pepper. Stuff turkey. Place excess dressing in bottom of pan around turkey. |
