2 c. raisins
1 c. molasses
1 c. sugar
2/3 c. shortening
2 c. cold water
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. cinnamon
May add 1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. candied cherries, cut in half

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In saucepan, combine raisins, molasses, sugar, shortening and water. Cook approximately 5 to 10 minutes until mixture thickens slightly, stirring constantly. Let cool. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. When raisin mixture has cooled add flour mixture and combine well. Place in well greased tube pan and bake in moderate oven of 350 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
