Several Easter's ago I made these basic cookies using various cake flavors. Lemon, strawberry, orange, chocolate and a white mix that I added pumpkin too. Using a small cookie scoop I made Whoopie Cookies. Such a pretty plate with all the spring colors. For filling, I made a very creamy butter-cream. The filling for the chocolate cookies can be tinted green and mint flavoring added. Let your imagination roam. I have recently seen Key Lime and Orange Cream cake mixes.

I have done lemon, orange, and chocolate frosted with same, yum. Also, yellow cake mix with oatmeal /raisens, butter rum flavor with nuts, and white cake mix for sugar cookies, or use chopped cherries and nuts or choc chips and butter pecan mix with extra toasted pecans. Everything works and it is great for a crowd.

I used to make these in the '70s. Lost the recipe, found the recipe about 10 years ago. Lost it again. They are so good. You won't regret trying them.

Great recipe, but if using sugar-free cake mix, you must add some milk, cream, or buttermilk. Otherwise, it doesn't liquify enough. Tastes great!

Took these into work and everyone loved them. I rolled them in powdered sugar and only baked them for 12 minutes. They're still soft 3 days later.

I have baked these cookies in all different flavors for years with great sucess. If you want to add a little crunch when not adding nuts try a cup of Rice Krispies to the mix.Great change.
