BEEF AND BARLEY SOUP 
1 lb. lean stew beef
2 med. onions
3 stalks celery
1/2 green pepper
1 qt. water
1 or 2 cloves of garlic
1/2 c. barley
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. basil
2 bouillon cubes
1 can corn
Fresh vegetables

Cut beef into bite size pieces, trim off fat. Brown the meat in a little butter. Put all together in crock pot. Vegetables may vary - green beans, peas, carrots, broccoli. Cook on high 4 to 5 hours or cook on high 2 hours and low 4 to 5 hours or cook on low 8 to 10 hours. I start on high and the rest of the time on low.
