7 c. flour 1 tbsp. salt 1 tbsp. ginger 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. allspice 3/4 c. water 1/4 c. rum 2 tsp. baking soda 2 c. dark molasses 1 c. shortening 2 c. sugar Mix dry ingredients. Combine water and rum. Mix soda with molasses. Cream shortening and sugar. Add dry ingredients, molasses mixture, rum and water mixture in 2 sections. Chill dough overnight. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick, cut with a 4 inch cutter. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Instead of rolling out they can be formed into balls then flattened with a greased glass. |
