SPLIT PEA SOUP 
12 c. cold water
1 pkg. split green peas
1 ham bone
1/2 c. chopped onion
5 to 6 stalks celery with tops, cut up
5 to 6 carrots, cut up
1 clove garlic
1 bay leaf
10 to 12 peppercorns

Cook in large kettle 3 hours. Remove ham bone and cut off any meat. Put soup through a sieve. Chill overnight and remove any fat. Add meat to soup and reheat.
