STARTER HERMAN | |
2 c. flour 2 c. water (warm) 1/4 c. sugar 1 env. yeast Mix all four ingredients and place in plastic or glass container. Let stand overnight in a warm place. Cover with lid but not tightly. Refrigerate covered but stir each day. Proceed with the following on the fifth day feed, etc. Continue directions from Herman from this point. HERMAN: On the day you get Herman, you must feed him: one cup flour, one cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar. Feed on the first day and on the fifth day. Bake Herman on the tenth day. Keep Herman refrigerated in large bowl, and stir him every day because the batter will rise to the top. HERMAN CARROT CAKE: 2 c. flour 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. finely shredded carrots 1 c. oil 1 c. Herman 4 eggs 1/2 c. chopped walnuts Stir together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, soda and cinnamon. Add carrots, oil, Herman and eggs. Mix until moistened. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.. Pour batter into greased and floured 13 x 9 inch cake pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 55 minutes. Cool well. Spread with cream cheese frosting, sprinkle with walnuts. |
