ZAIDE'S OATMEAL BAR COOKIES 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. oatmeal, not instant

Put rack in center of oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 8 or 9 inch square cake pan. Place butter and sugar in medium size saucepan. Stir over moderate heat until melted. Remove pan from heat. Sift baking powder through fine strainer. Add salt and stir until smooth. Add oats; it will be thick. Press dough in bottom of pan.

Bake 25 minutes (cake will be soft). While warm, cut around sides. When almost cool, transfer to cutting board and cut into squares.
