2 1/2 c. nut halves (pecans or walnuts) 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter, melted 3 egg whites 1 c. sugar 3/4 c. sifted flour Put nuts in pan. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly brown. Remove from pan to cool. Put butter in pan. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold in sugar and flour. Fold in nuts. Spread mixture over melted butter. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until nuts are brown, stirring occasionally to break apart. Cool. Yield: about 5 cups. |
