CUCUMBER RING PICKLES 
4 qts. med. or lg. cucumbers
1/2 c. salt
1 c. vinegar
Alum (walnut size)
3 lbs. sugar
3 pts. white vinegar
1/4 tsp. oil of cloves
1/4 tsp. oil of cinnamon

Core and slice cucumber to 1/4" thickness. Let stand for 3 days in salt with enough water to cover. Drain. Cover with cold water. Repeat. Change water for 3 days. Drained cucumbers should simmer for 2 hours in vinegar-alum mixture with enough fresh water to cover. Rinse, drain and cover with sugar, vinegar and spices. Reheat syrup mixture, once a day for 3 days. Pack into sterilized jars and seal lids.
