1 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1 c. soft butter 2 c. granulated sugar 4 eggs 4 sq. unsweetened chocolate (or cocoa equivalent) 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 c. nuts, if desired Start by heating oven to 350 degrees and grease either 2 (8 x 8 x 2 inch) pans or 1 (13 x 9 inch) pan. Sift flour with salt and baking powder; set aside. In another bowl cream together butter, sugar and eggs using a spoon or mixer. Then add vanilla to creamed mixture. Next add to creamed mixture either melted chocolate squares or cocoa substitute. Mix together well, then slowly add flour and nuts if desired. Turn into pan(s) and bake 30-35 minutes or until top is crispy. Cut while hot into squares. Cool in pan. Makes 32 squares. 3 level tablespoons of cocoa and 1 tablespoon shortening or oil = 1 square unsweetened baking chocolate. |
