COUNTRY STYLE STEAK | |
1 1/2 lb. round steak, sliced salt and pepper to taste 2 tbsp. shortening 1/2 c. chopped onion 1/4 c. melted shortening 1/4 c. flour 3 c. water Brown seasoned meat in 2 tablespoons oil, using an iron skillet. Remove steak from skillet and make brown onion gravy by adding onion to 1/4 cup melted shortening. Sauté onion until brown. Add flour and blend, stirring until brown. Add water, stirring constantly, until thickened, then put meat into gravy. Cover with an iron lid and simmer for 1 hour. The process of steaming will make the steak very tender. Serves 6. |
