GREEN BEANS 
1 qt. green beans, fresh, frozen or canned
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/4 c. sugar
1 hot pepper (optional)
2 strips bacon or ham trimmings
1 med. onion
Black pepper to taste
Enough water to cover beans

With canned green beans, add all ingredients and cook at least 2 hours, checking water. With other beans, add water, checking often, and other ingredients. Fresh green beans require a longer cooking time.
