NAOMI JOHNSON'S CREAMY WALNUT
CAKE
 
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. milk
2 eggs
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1/4 tsp. maple flavoring
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped

Mix together in large bowl flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, sugar and 3/4 cup milk. Mix on low speed until milk is absorbed, then beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Add in eggs, brown sugar, 1/4 cup milk, maple flavoring; beat well. Blend in walnuts. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Frost and serve.

FROSTING:

2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. shortening
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg yolk
3 1/2 c. powdered sugar
3-6 tbsp. warm milk

Combine butter, shortening, salt, vanilla and egg yolk. Beat until smooth. Add milk by tablespoonfuls alternately with cups of powdered sugar until all sugar is added and frosting is desired consistency.
