ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening (Crisco butter is good)
2 c. sugar
5 eggs
2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can (3 1/2 oz.) coconut
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat until smooth. Add eggs and beat well. Add flour and soda alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla, coconut and nuts. Pour into greased cake pans (usually 3). Bake in preheated 350 oven for approximately 30 minutes.

ICING:

1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese
1/2 c. butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped

Let cream cheese and butter come to room temperature. Cream them together. Add sugar gradually. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Frost cooled cake layers.
