BASIC SWEET ROLLS 
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. lukewarm water
2 pkgs. yeast
2 eggs, beaten
5 c. flour

Heat milk to scalding, stir in sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast in a large bowl and add warm water. Stir until dissolved. Add milk mixture. Add eggs and 3 cups flour, beat until smooth. Stir in remainder of flour, turn dough out on lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, brush top with soft shortening. Let rise in warm place free from drafts until double in size, about 1 or 2 hours. Punch down, turn onto lightly floured board. Shape into rolls or loaves. Place in baking pans, cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size. Bake 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
