BUTTERMILK PRALINE CAKE 
1 c. butter or vegetable shortening
4 eggs, separated
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. sugar
3 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening and sugar until light. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat until fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in a 9 x 13 inch greased, floured pan at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Remove from oven and spread with topping. Place under broiler 3 inches from unit for 1-2 minutes.

PRALINE TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
1/4 c. melted butter
3 tbsp. cream

Mix.
