5 lb. flour 3 c. sugar 3/4 lb. Crisco 3/4 lb. butter 2 c. milk 9 eggs 1 oz. flavoring (see below) 5 tbsp. baking powder Combine all ingredients and mix until dough is smooth. Roll dough into walnut-size balls or make any shape you desire such as rings or the letter "s." Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. This is a basic Biscotti recipe. You may vary the flavoring as you desire: for instance, vanilla, cherry, lemon, strawberry, pineapple, almond, anise, etc. If you use anise oil, only use a teaspoon and not a whole ounce. You may use a few drops of food coloring added to the dough to correspond with the flavoring you have chosen, such as red, for strawberry or cherry, yellow for lemon, green for anise, etc. |
