These cookies bring back a flood of childhood memories! I've always made them with peanut butter and have never heard of adding the other items like coconut, Chinese noodles! Makes me wish I had milk in the house right now so I can experiment! I think m cherries sound good in it...has anyone ever tried that?

This is my favorite cookie ever. I have been making them since I was little. I have been using Old Fashioned Oats by Quaker forever. I don't like them mushy like they can get with the quick oats. For the chocolate, I cook it until it makes a ball at the bottom of a cup of cold water. I have found that timing varies based on weather too. You can make in rainy weather, but you have to cook the chocolate a little longer.

I LOVE these cookies and have made them forever :) But when I was in school (in the 70s-80s) our cafeteria made something simliar in bar-form... they had the same taste and were everyone's favorite. Any ideas of how this recipe would fare if you just poured it into a pan and cut it into bars?

I have been making these for years. They were a favorite of my sons when they were young and still favorites. To save time, I poured them into a pan and cut into squares. I would make these and take to my son in college--all of his friends loved them. One friend would always ask for these when she knew I was going to visit. He's now graduated so I gave the friend the recipe.

I have been looking for a recipe for these cookies for a year and a half now. I tried them the very first time a year and a half ago (I am 39) and fell in love with them but could not find out the name or find a recipe for them. Thank you for posting this. I am going to make them tomorrow for my nephew's pot luck party and make an extra batch to keep here at home. Thanks so much!

These cookies are sooooo good. They taste like fudge with oatmeal added. We used to call then Top of the Stove Cookies. We made them with and without peanut butter. They are great both ways. I never made them with coconut but it sounds yummy so think I might.

Made these when I was a Brownie for Valentine's Day many moons ago. We used coconut and chopped nuts. My daughters still make these. Over fifty years since I first made these...amazing.

My elementary school use to serve these when I was a kid. We looked forward to those days when they would have these cookies. I loved them and have been looking for this simple recipe for ever. I am going to try them and see if they are the same. I hope they are. Great treat for Thanksgiving & Christmas time for the kids and adults. Thanks!
