HUSH PUPPIES 
1 1/2 c. yellow cornmeal
1/2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, unbeaten
3/4 c. sweet milk

Sift together the dry ingredients. Add egg and milk; stir or mix to make a stiff batter or dough. Spoon out pieces of dough on floured board and roll into finger-size rolls or drop from a spoon into hot (360 degrees) deep fat. When golden brown, remove and drain on paper toweling. Serves 6.

OPTIONAL: You can add onion or garlic powder or chopped green onion or hot pepper.
