1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
48 milk chocolate candy kisses

Combine all ingredients, except candy kisses. Blend well with mixer. Shape into balls (use a rounded teaspoon for each). Roll edges in sugar (optional). Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven. Top each cookie immediately with a candy kiss, pressing down firmly so cookie cracks around the edges.
