ALMOND BARS 
1/2 c. soft butter
1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 tsp. butter
1 tsp. water
3/4 tsp. lemon juice
3/4 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. sliced almonds

Cream butter and powdered sugar; add flour and mix. Pat into 9 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Check after 10 minutes. Batter should be golden (not dark). Melt remaining butter. Add water, lemon juice, and brown sugar in saucepan. Stir constantly a few minutes and remove from heat. Stir in almonds and vanilla. Pour over crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. While warm, cut into bars.
