APPLE ALMOND BARS 
1 stick butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. flour
1 1/2 lg. apples, peeled and chopped
1/2 c. walnuts or almonds
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tbsp. sugar

Melt butter. Stir in 3/4 cup sugar. Beat in eggs. Stir together flour and baking powder and add to first mixture. Add almond extract, apple and nuts. Mix, then spread in greased 9-inch square pan. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and cut in squares. For an 8-inch pan, cook 15 minutes longer.
