GALEY'S BROWN SUGAR COOKIES | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 c. brown sugar, packed 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. hot water 1/2 c. raisins or dates 1/2 c. pecans or walnuts Cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together then add half the flour mixture to creamed mixture; blend well. Add the remaining flour mixture and blend well. Add raisins and nuts (add hot water before nuts). Put level tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Press with tines of fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 3 dozen. |
