MOM'S HOMEMADE BREAD AND BUNS
1/2 c. lukewarm water
1-2 pkg. dry yeast
1 c. hot water
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. oil
1 c. cold water
1/2 c. sugar
3-5 c. flour
1 egg
4-5 more c. flour

Mix 1/2 cup lukewarm water and yeast; set aside. In large mixing bowl, combine hot water, salt, oil and cold water. Stir together then add yeast mixture, sugar and first 3-5 cups flour. Mix well and add egg; add the next 4-5 cups flour and knead on floured board or counter for 5 minutes.

Place in well greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1-2 hours until double in size. Punch down and work out into loaves or buns about the size of a large egg and place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Let rise again until well doubled in size, then bake at 425 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until brown. Lightly brush browned tops with butter and serve hot.
