MULLED WINE 
1 c. sugar
4 c. water
Lemon peel from 1/2 a lemon cut into strips
18 whole cloves
2 (3 inch) sticks of cinnamon
2 bottles dry red wine such as burgundy

Dissolve sugar in water in large saucepan. Add lemon peel, cloves, and cinnamon. Boil 15 minutes, strain out peel and spices. Add wine and heat gently. Do not boil. Preheat punch bowl or pitcher by filling with hot water.
