COLD DOUGH COOKIES 
Ingredients for Cold Dough:

8 cups flour
l large cake yeast
2 cups shortening
2 lemons, grated rind only
1 pint sour cream
1 ½ teaspoons salt
8 egg yolks

Nut Mixture:

3 cups finely chopped walnuts
2 ½ cups sugar
¼ cup of white Karo Syrup
8 egg whites (beat well before adding to nut mixture)

Beat the yolks well before adding to the dough. Add remaining ingredients for the dough and knead thoroughly. Refrigerate overnight or until dough is cold throughout (at least 3 hours). Knead the dough a little, then take a little dough at a time and roll it out sprinkled with sugar and some flour. Then cut into squares and fill with apricot preserves or nut filling.

Bake on greased (or Teflon coated) cookie sheets at 350°F for 20 minutes.
