CHOCOLATE TORTE 
7 sq. (1 oz. each) semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
1 c. sugar
7 egg whites
7 egg yolks
Whip cream or Cool Whip
Chocolate shavings

Melt chocolate and butter in saucepan over low heat. Add 3/4 cup sugar and egg yolks. Beat 3 minutes at high speed. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a separate bowl beat egg whites until soft peaks form, add remaining 1/4 cup sugar, beat until peaks hold. Fold egg whites slowly into chocolate batter with rubber spatula.

Pour only 3/4 of batter into ungreased 9 inch spring form pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes. Let torte cool and fall. Then run knife around edge of pan and remove frame. Pour remaining uncooked batter over top of torte and chill. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. If you make the day before - do not put whipped cream on until ready to serve.
