MID WESTERN BAKED BEANS | |
1 lb. small dry white beans 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. brown sugar 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tbsp. horseradish 1/2 lbs. ham, cubed 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz.) 1 c. catsup 1 tbsp. prepared mustard 1 tbsp. chili powder 2 tbsp. oil 3 med. onions 2 c. apples, peeled and sliced Soak beans overnight in water to cover. Drain. Add 10 cups fresh water and salt. Bring to boil. Simmer until tender, about 60 minutes. Drain, reserving 2 cups liquid. Add reserved liquid to beans along with all the ingredients down to the oil, onion and apples. Heat oil and saute onions and apples until tender. Stir into beans. Pour into 3 quart baking dish or bean pot. Bake at 325 degrees for 2 to 3 hours. |
