CINDY'S EASY SPAGHETTI SAUCE | |
No need to chop up veggies for sauce; the stewed tomatoes in this sauce do most of the flavoring work for you, as their ingredients include celery, green pepper and onion. Plus it shortens the prep and cooking time, since no raw veggies need to be chopped or cooked. Plus, they add a hint of sweetness, which is a favorite component of spaghetti sauce. 1 (30 oz.) can crushed tomatoes 2 (15 oz. ea.) cans stewed tomatoes 3 tbsp. tomato paste 1 tbsp. garlic powder 1 1/2 tbsp. dried basil 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper dash red pepper flakes 1/2 tsp. salt (or to taste) cooked meatballs or Italian sausages (optional) In a large saucepan, pour liquid from stewed tomatoes. Using a stick blender, grind up stewed tomato solids right in the can, until most of tomato chunks are broken up. Then add ground up tomatoes, and all other ingredients, including cooked sausages or meatballs, if using, into the saucepan. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Cook, covered, over medium heat, til comes to gentle boil. Reduce temperature to medium low, and cook, uncovered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Serve with cooked, well-drained pasta of your choice, or use for baked pasta dishes. Submitted by: Cindy Greenfeather |
