SOFT DOUGH:

1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Make soft dough and roll onto floured board. Spread with Date Filling and roll as for jelly roll. Chill overnight, slice and bake at 350 degrees on greased cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes.

DATE FILLING:

1 lb. pitted dates
1 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. water

Cook dates, brown sugar and water until thick. Cool and add pecans.
