DATE-ORANGE CHOCOLATE BARS
1 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. pitted dates, cut up
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
1 c. orange juice
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts

ORANGE GLAZE:

1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
2 tbsp. softened butter
1 tsp. grated orange rind
3 tbsp. light cream

Mix flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.

In large saucepan, combine dates, brown sugar, butter and 1/2 cup water. Put over low heat and cook, stirring until dates soften; cool 10 minutes, then beat in eggs. Stir in flour mixture and orange juice. Add chocolate chips and nuts.

Spread in greased 9x13 inch pan and bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 25 minutes. Cool in pan on cake rack, then spread with orange glaze. When firm, cut in bars. Makes about 4 dozen bars.

Glaze: Mix together confectioners' sugar, butter and lemon rind. Blend in cream.
