1 c. soft shortening (butter)
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. sugar & 4 tsp. cinnamon, mixed

Mix butter, sugar and eggs in large bowl. In separate medium bowl, sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Add dry mixture to egg mixture and blend well. Roll into balls about the size of walnuts. Roll balls in the cinnamon mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 8 minutes until light brown and still soft. Cool on rack.
