5 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 5 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 c. lard 3/4 c. milk 1 1/2 c. raisins or 1 c. raisins, 2/3 c. candied fruit and peel In large bowl sift in flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Work lard into flour mixture until you have a fine/medium texture. Soak raisins in hot water for a few minutes. Drain well. Add to bowl. Toss fruit through flour mixture. Mix beaten eggs, milk and vanilla together. Add to flour mixture. (May need to add more milk to hold mixture together.) Put mixture on floured cloth. Divide into 5 parts. Roll each section out into 1/2-inch thick round. Cut into 6 pie-shaped pieces (each section). Put on greased sheet. Brush tops with beaten egg. Bake in 375 degree oven until light brown, about 1/2 hour. |
