RED DEVILS FOOD CAKE 
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water

Cream shortening. Add sugar and cocoa; cream well. Add eggs and beat hard; add flour alternately with milk in which soda has been dissolved. Add boiling water and vanilla. Bake in two 8 inch pans (350 degrees). Fill and frost with 7 Minute Icing. Bake 30-35 minutes. (13 x 9 inch pan bake 30-35 minutes.)

7 MINUTE ICING:

1 tbsp. corn syrup
1 1/2 c. sugar
5 tbsp. water
2 egg whites

Mix together and cook, beating constantly over boiling water for 7 minutes or until it will stand in peaks.
