DARK DATE NUT BREAD 
1 c. hot water
1 c. cold water
1 c. dates, chopped
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten until creamy & thick
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. walnuts, broken in lg. pieces

Pour hot water, then cold water over dates. Stir and let stand to cool. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Cream together butter and sugars; add beaten eggs and vanilla. Stir in half the flour mixture. Stir into batter the date mixture and walnuts. Add the other half of the flour mixture. Spoon batter into 2 well greased and floured 9x5x2 inch pans.

Bake at 325°F for 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours or until bread tests done.
