GRANDMA ANNIE DYKEMA'S DATE
BREAD
 
2 c. dates, cut up
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp. melted butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 2/3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 - 1 c. nuts, if desired

Cut up dates into small pieces. Add 2 tsp. baking soda. Bring water to a boil, pour over dates and baking soda; set aside. In bowl put beaten eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder and melted butter. Mix well; add cooled date mixture and nuts; mix well.

Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes in large loaf pan, less if using small pans.
