1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. ground ginger (optional) 1 1/2 cinnamon sticks 1/2 tsp. allspice 1 c. water 1 qt. orange juice 2 1/2 qts. apple cider or juice 1/2 lg. bottle lemon juice Mix dry ingredients. Simmer in water until sugar dissolves. Stir constantly. Add remaining liquids to sugar mixture. Heat, but do not boil. Serve warm or cool. Refrigerate to serve chilled. Remove decorative oranges and cinnamon sticks to store. ORANGE DECORATION: Heat three oranges at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Stick one box of cloves in oranges and float in wassail. Yields: 25 cups (1 gallon). Use 5 quart cooker to heat and serve or serve from 5 quart crock pot. |
