1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 egg
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 apples, cut fine or grated
3/4 c. nuts, cut up
8" square pan

Cream sugar and butter. Add 1 egg. Sift dry ingredients and add. Then add apples and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

SAUCE FOR TOPPING:

1/2 c. butter (oleo)
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cream

Boil until thick.
