APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
6-8 drops red food coloring
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
6 med. apples, peeled & sliced

Combine first 5 ingredients and bring to a boil. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk all at once and stir until flour is moistened. Form into 8 balls and roll each ball 1/8" thick. Put a handful of apples on each circle. Sprinkle generously with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and dot with butter. Moisten edges and fold up. Pinch edges together. Place in 9"x13" pan, sprayed with Pam. Pour syrup over dumplings, sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
