ENGLISH TOFFEE 
1 c. white sugar
1/2 lb. butter
1 pinch salt
1 pinch cream of tartar
3 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
3 plain Hershey bars

Boil sugar, butter, salt and cream of tartar, water and vanilla on high flame. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon. Boil 7 to 8 minutes or until golden brown. Pour into buttered 13"x9" cookie sheet. Before pouring, stir in 1/2 cup nuts, then spread in pan.

Put bits of bars on toffee. When melted spread over the top. Then sprinkle 1/4 cup nuts over top. Cool until brittle. Break into small pieces. Store in refrigerator.

DO NOT SUBSTITUTE butter, IT BURNS.
