SIMPLE SYRUP (PIE CRUST GLAZE)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Combine sugar and water in saucepan and bring just to boiling. Cool before brushing on pie.

Leftover syrup can be stored, covered, in refrigerator.

Glazing the top of a pie makes for an appealing shiny, golden crust. The syrup, which hardens on the crust as it bakes, gives it a tender, sweet taste.

The edges of the crust will be unlikely to burn if they are protected with a rim of aluminum foil.
