PEPPERNUTS | |
1 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. shortening 2 eggs 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. anise oil 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 c. sweet cream 1 c. dark syrup 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 c. finely chopped nuts 7 c. flour, or enough to form stiff dough Mix all ingredients to form a stiff dough. Roll into ropes approximately 1/2 inch in diameter. Place on cookie sheet in freezer until stiff. Cut into tiny slices (about 1/4 inch) and bake on lightly greased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees. Watch closely so they don't burn. Cool. Store in tightly covered container. This dough will keep in the refrigerator about 1 week, so you can bake them as time allows. |
