4 c. flour 4 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 2 c. sugar 2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. mace 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs 1/2 c. molasses light or dark Sift flour measure and return to sifter, add soda, salt and spices. Cream shortening and add sugar gradually, creaming it in as it is added. Add eggs one at a time beating each one in as it is added. Now stir in the molasses. Add dry ingredients gradually until batter is smooth. Cover dough with wax paper and chill, 1 hour. Grease cookie sheet. Preheat oven to 350°F. Take a teaspoon of dough and roll into ball, size of walnut and roll in sugar. Put on cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. |
