PRALINES
1 1/2 c. dark brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. corn syrup
1 c. milk
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. pecan halves

Combine sugars, syrup, milk, and salt in 3 quart heavy saucepan. (If available, use Teflon-line pan.) Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes to a boil. Continue cooking, stirring now and then, to 234 degrees or soft ball stage. Remove from heat; cool 10 minutes. Add vanilla and beat by hand for a few minutes. Add pecans; stir just until syrup begins to lose its gloss. Mixture will be thin. Quickly drop by tablespoon on waxed paper or foil. Patties should spread. If mixture becomes to stiff, add hot water, a teaspoon at a time. Makes about 2 pounds.
