RED EARTH HOLIDAY CAKE 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. red food coloring
2 tsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time. In small bowl, mix food coloring and cocoa. Add to sugar mixture. Add buttermilk and vanilla alternately with flour. Mix vinegar and soda; add to batter. Bake in two 9 inch greased pans at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Cool.

RED VELVET FROSTING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Combine flour and milk; cook until thickened. Cool. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla; add to milk mixture; mix well. Spread between layers and on top and sides of cake (whip until it looks like whipped butter).
