3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. milk
1 egg
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Sift dry ingredients. Add shortening and mix with fingers until you have crumbly mixture. Mix liquids and add to dry. Place in a buttered 9" square pan. Top with:

STREUSEL TOPPING:

4 tbsp. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix with fingers until thoroughly mixed and crumbly. Put on top of the batter and bake 25 to 30 minutes in a 375 degree oven.
