SPICY GINGERBREAD 
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 c. molasses
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. boiling water
Whipped cream for topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease one 9 inch square cake pan and then sprinkle with flour. In large bowl with mixer at low, mix well all ingredients except cream; then beat at medium speed 3 minutes. Pour batter into greased floured pan. Bake 55-60 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake on wire rack and then top cake with whipped cream. Makes 9 servings.
