LIGHT - AS - A - FEATHER
GINGERBREAD
 
1/2 c. shortening (butter)
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg
1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves

TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. soft butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Beat together first 4 ingredients. Stir in hot water. Sift together dry ingredients; add to liquids and beat smooth. Bake in 9 inch square pan (or 8 x 10 inch oblong) 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Sprinkle topping over cake before baking. Serves 9 or more.
